Spanish Pronunciation

The pronunciation of Spanish is generally regular and the notes below should be sufficient to enable an English speaker to read most Spanish words. Because of this, the only pronunciations shown on the Spanish-English side of the dictionary are those of foreign words or other words which are pronounced in a way you would not expect. Pronunciations, where shown, are transcribed using the International Phonetic Alphabet, which is explained below. Stress in Spanish words falls on the second last syllable if the word ends in a vowel, n or s; if a word ends in a consonant the last syllable is stressed. If the stress falls anywhere else in the word, this is shown by an acute accent over the stressed vowel.
